Predicting an Alimony Award in a Florida Divorce can be Extremely Difficult.

In Florida, there is no precise formula for the calculation of spousal support though a Florida court will consider a number of factors that are outlined in Fla. Stat. Sec. 61.08.  Alimony awards are especially hard to predict in Florida even for experienced Florida divorce attorneys because you may get a dozen different calculations from a dozen different family law courts in Florida…

Anyone reviewing these factors should be able to see why there is such a lack of consistency in Florida alimony awards.  For example, the fairness factor essentially grants a judge an enormous amount of discretion, which means widely divergent outcomes.

I can’t wait for guidelines to be added to the alimony laws in Florida! This might help people know what they will be awarded. IMHO this will help heal the pain that divorce causes in a divorce. With out the guidelines the ex-spouse is not forced to pay till he/she dies. They will not be forced to pay more than they can afford. They can someday retire! The ex-spouse will know that one day support will end and they will be more open to actually get training before the free money dries up.

I no longer like living in Florida and I can not wait to move. I will not be retiring here. Myself and my new wife will be retiring somewhere else!

Shame on Florida! Fix your laws! Stop the endless litigation! There are only two parties that win with the exes fighting over money! Contact your legislator and help get the laws changed. With your help we can make a difference!

Thanks for any support you can do.
